Peppercorn Black

Black peppercorns are an almost ubiquitous condiment at all dining tables and a staple seasoning for many dishes and sauces. They have an earthy hotness with an undertone of pine and a pungent lingering hotness.

If you cut a black peppercorn in half you will see that it consists of a hard black outer and a white inner. The outer is the dried skin of the fruit and the white is the seed.

Black pepper's versatility is what has made it one of the most important spices in history. It's robust profile compliments strong flavoured red meats, fish and game and when used sparingly can also enhance cheeses and fruits.

Stored correctly in Kitchen Herbarry packaging whole black peppercorns will keep their quality of flavour for up to four years.

Fun Fact: One of the key factors in Columbus discovering the Americas was the high tariffs placed on peppercorns after Constantinople fell to the Turks in 1453. His voyage was funded by merchants seeking new sources of peppercorns.
