Cumin Seeds

Cumin seeds have a warm, earthy flavour with slightly bitter notes and when dry roasted for a couple of minutes before grinding acquire a some nutty notes.

Cumin seeds are an almost ubiquitous spice in South Asian curries where their flavour is often dominant. Cumin seeds compliment lamb particularly well and are an excellent addition to Mexican and Moroccan food.

A very small amount of freshly ground cumin can also balance recipes with a citrus or slightly acidic flavour without making them taste of curry.

Stored correctly in Kitchen Herbarry packaging whole cumin seeds will keep their quality of flavour for up to four years.

Cumin seed should not be confused with "black cumin". What is most often referred to as "black cumin" is in fact Nigella (itself sometimes incorrectly referred to as "black onion seed") which has a very different flavour and appearance. To add to the confusion true "black cumin" is, in fact, a variety of cumin which is similar in appearance but again has a different flavour.

Fun Fact: The cumin plant is from the same family as parsley
