Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne pepper powder is made from a group of cultivars of bright red-orange, hot chilli peppers which have a slightly smokey and musty flavour. After drying and grinding the resultant powder maintains it's fiery colour and as such adds both spicy heat and colour to a dish. Kitchen Herbarry cayenne pepper is between 30,000 and 50,000 scoville heat units (SHU).
At The Kitchen Herbarry our blends do not contain chilli so that you can adjust the chilli heat to suit. If you like your food hot then you can add cayenne pepper powder to one our blends such as Taste of Texas or Taste or Taste of Kashmir.
Stored correctly in Kitchen Herbarry packaging cayenne pepper powder will keep its quality of flavour and heat for up to three years.
Fun Fact: The capital city of French Guyana in South America is called "Cayenne" but it is much more likely that the city was named after the chilli pepper than the chilli pepper after the city. There are other plausible origins for the names of both.
