Nutmeg Whole
Ground nutmeg has a sweet, warming and aromatic flavour. Nutmeg has a very high oil content and as such the ground variety maintains the flavour of whole nutmeg for a long time.
Ground nutmeg is excellent in cakes and biscuits or sprinkled over rice pudding. Its also complements root vegetables such as carrots or potatoes very nicely when mixed with a little melted butter and tossed after cooking.
Ground nutmeg should always be used sparingly, however, since it can easily overpower other flavours.
Stored correctly in Kitchen Herbarry packaging ground nutmeg will keep its quality of flavour for up to three years.
Fun Fact: The flag of Greneda has a symbol of a nutmeg on it. This is because nutmeg became a primary export of Greneda after the British transplanted nutmeg trees there after seizing them from the Dutch in modern day Indonesia.
