Coriander Seeds

Whole coriander seeds ground to a fine powder with a pestle and mortar yield a nutty, zesty flavour of orange and lemon with a balsamic note quite different from coriander leaves. The ground husk of the seed is excellent for thickening curry sauces.

Freshly ground coriander seeds are also excellent for tempering the strong flavours of other pungent spices such as cloves, cardamom, fenugreek, ginger or star anise. If one of these flavours is dominating your recipe adding twice the volume of coriander seeds to that of the dominant spice will easily re-balance your dish.

Stored correctly in Kitchen Herbarry packaging whole coriander seed will keep their quality of flavour for up to three years.

Fun Fact: The essential oil from coriander seeds is very effective at masking odours and is used as such in both perfumery and pharmaceuticals.
